Eighty years old and two days old in Christ
The first time Lois came into RCM she had been picked up off the street by two two homeless individuals who spotted her wandering around the back of a local shelter - alone, disoriented, confused, despondent - really close to death. Since Lois obviously needed help, they brought her to River City Ministry to see a social worker. Upon assessing her needs, our social worker directed her to a mental health facility. That was three weeks ago. Recently she met a Christian couple, Bill and Sonya McCauley, who are members of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. They took Lois into their home from a local and temporary warming center for the night. Bill shared the gospel with her. Eighty-year-old Lois thought she had been too "bad" to receive the grace of God; however, she was convinced by Bill that the Lord offers his grace freely to everyone. Lois was baptized into Christ after confessing her belief that Jesus is Lord and who proved his divinity by his resurrection from the dead.
When I spoke to Lois yesterday, rejoicing with her in her decision to accept Christ as Savior, she was clear in speech and sported a smiling face. What a transformation! She was truly a "new creature." In the words of the social worker, "I hope you know that those folks who picked Lois up off the streets literally saved her life!" Kind of reminds me of Acts 8:26-40.
Lois has been rescued! More of this story will follow in our RCM Newsletter.
